The Beautiful Lesson of Halal and Haram from a Mother

The Beautiful Lesson of Halal and Haram from a Mother

This story belongs to Dr. Muhammad Ratib al-Nabulsi, which he narrates about his mother. He says that one day when he was young, his mother asked him: "Can you say the word 'Halal' without closing your lips?" He tried and successfully said the word 'Halal' without closing his lips. His mother became happy, praised him, and kissed him. Then the mother asked: "Can you say the word 'Haram' without closing your lips?" He tried many times but could not succeed. Then he said sadly: "No mother, I cannot do it, no matter how much I try, in the end my lips close automatically." Upon this, his mother laughed and said: "This is the difference between Halal and Haram, son. Haram always causes restriction and hardship, while Halal always causes happiness and ease. Now it is your choice which path you choose for yourself: Halal, which opens the doors of this world and the Hereafter, or Haram, which closes all doors." After that day, whenever he did something wrong, his mother would close her lips, and a wave of sorrow would spread across her face. But when he did a good deed, his mother would smile and open her lips, saying, "If you always want to see your mother's smile, then always adopt the Halal and pure path." When Dr. Muhammad grew up, he never tried to lose his mother's smile. When his mother passed away and he went to her to say the final goodbye and give a last kiss, he found his mother smiling, her lips were open. He said: "I promise, mother, I will always walk on the path of Halal." The purpose of this story is not just to teach your children that some actions are flaws, but also to tell them that these are Halal and Haram; this pleases Allah and this displeases Allah, so that they live their lives for the pleasure of Allah, and not out of fear of people.
