How Great a Blessing Faith Is

How Great a Blessing Faith Is

Hazrat Maulana Peer Zulfiqar Ahmad Naqshbandi narrated an incident that in 1994, when he had the opportunity to visit Samarkand, he delivered the Friday sermon at the Jamia Masjid of Samarkand. After the Friday prayer, a few young men came to me and said, "Hazrat! Please come to our house, our mother wants to meet you." I excused myself, saying, "There are so many people present here, how can I leave them and go there?" The Grand Mufti of Samarkand was standing right next to me. He said, "Hazrat! Do not refuse them, I will also go with you; it is necessary to visit their home." I said, "Very well." So, after meeting with friends, we set off. On the way, the Grand Mufti began to tell me that the mother of these young boys is a Mujahida (struggler) and a firm believer (Mumina). When the communist revolution came, she was a twenty-year-old young girl at that time. Since then, seventy years have passed, making her ninety years old now. Allah Almighty bestowed upon her such a strong faith during the communist era that while a flood of atheism arrived on one side, this young girl on the other side used to preach to young girls to remain steadfast in religion. She would debate with them for hours and bring them to faith by making them recite the Kalimah. We used to worry that this young girl's life was in danger and that these atheist soldiers would ruin her honor and hang her. Therefore, we would advise her, "Daughter, you are young, it is a matter of your honor and life, do not preach Islam so openly to people." But she would say, "My honor and life are not more precious than Islam. If my life is accepted in the path of Allah Almighty, what difference will it make?" Therefore, she continued to preach openly to women, to the extent that hundreds of women repented from atheism and became Muslims again. We were always in fear for her. All the scholars were worried, wondering what would become of this girl? Who knows which day she would be sent to the gallows and be stripped and humiliated in front of everyone. But she did not falter; she kept preaching religion to them. She continued preaching the religion for seventy years and became the cause of thousands of women accepting faith. Now she is sick, old, and lying on a cot. Someone told this woman about you, that a scholar has come from Pakistan, and she wished to speak with you, which is why I said you should not refuse. When this humble servant heard this, my heart was filled with joy that since she is such a righteous servant of Allah, we should also request prayers from her. When we reached their house, we saw that her cot was placed in the courtyard and she was lying on it. The boys placed a thin sheet over her. We stood about one meter away from the cot. As soon as I entered, I offered Islamic greetings (Salam). After greeting, I requested, "Amma (Mother)! Pray for us; we have come to your service to receive your blessings and prayers." When I requested this, she raised her hands from inside the sheet and in an old, frail voice, the very first prayer she made was: "O God! Keep my faith (Iman) safe." Believe me, tears welled up in our eyes. That day, we realized how great a blessing faith is, that a woman who labored for seventy years on her faith, even now when she prays, the first thing she says is: "O God, keep my faith safe..."
