The Umbrella of the Hereafter

The Umbrella of the Hereafter

Once during a cricket match, when it suddenly started raining, every person present in the stadium opened their umbrella and put it over their head. When the camera turned to the spectators' stand at that moment, a beautiful scene of colorful umbrellas had been created; there was hardly anyone who was not carrying an umbrella or wearing a raincoat. Seeing this raises the question: why did thousands of people present in the stadium have an umbrella or a raincoat at the same time? The answer is that before the match, these people had obtained the forecast, i.e., weather information, on their computer, TV, or mobile. They were certain that it would rain during the match, so they had already made arrangements to protect themselves from it. As a result, they neither got very wet due to the rain nor faced any other discomfort. This brings another thought to mind: we have received the ultimate forecast, i.e., the Quran, through the most reliable source, the Last Prophet ﷺ, in which it is clearly written what kind of questionnaire there will be after death, on what things Allah's accountability will take place, and which deeds will be rewarded. Then another question arises from this: when we have such solid and true news available, why don't we prepare for it? On the prediction of a minor rain, we keep an umbrella and a raincoat with us; why don't we arrange a canopy and an umbrella upon hearing the glad tidings of Paradise and the news of Hell? The reason for this could either be that we do not believe in Allah's Quran and the words of His true Prophet ﷺ even as much as we believe in the newscaster who tells the weather forecast. The second reason could be that we are convinced that we are never going to die. In both cases, we are deceiving ourselves and falling into the pit of misguidance. Give at least that much importance to the glad tidings and the news of the punishment of Hell that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ conveyed, so that we arrange at least a single umbrella that can protect us from the rain of punishment on the Day of Judgment...
