In my flawed opinion!?

***

It is a pleasant coincidence that today, in quick succession, I came across this famous phrase used as a token of humility in the writings of two highly respected scholars:

"In my flawed opinion" (Meri Naqis Rai Mein).

In the opinion of this humble servant, this expression is not quite appropriate.

Think about it, when you yourself are declaring your statement to be "flawed" (deficient), then what justification is left for expressing it? And why would any listener or reader take it seriously?

Remember that "Naqis" (flawed) literally means defective, immature, bad, and inferior. Therefore, it is not fitting to call something inherently faulty yourself when you are presenting it as an argument (even if that is not what you actually mean).

To express humility, it would be much more appropriate to say:

"In my humble opinion" (Meri Aajizana Rai Mein).

In fact, there is greater beauty in attributing the humility to yourself rather than to the opinion, such as:

"In the opinion of this humble person" (Mjh Na-Cheez Ki Rai Mein).
