Gold prices drop sharply, become cheaper for the second consecutive day, check today's latest rates

New Delhi, June 17, 2025: Gold prices in Delhi witnessed a sharp decline on Tuesday. On the back of weak global trends and continued selling by jewellers, 99.9 per cent pure gold fell by Rs 1,200 to Rs 1,00,170 per 10 grams. On Monday, it had closed at Rs 1,01,370. 99.5 per cent pure gold also fell by Rs 1,100 to Rs 99,450 per 10 grams. On the other hand, silver prices rose by Rs 100 to Rs 1,07,200 per kg. The reason for the decline was the decline in demand for gold as fears of the Israel-Iran conflict escalating into a full-scale regional war eased, said Soumil Gandhi, senior analyst at HDFC Securities. Iran’s diplomatic efforts and the prospect of a ceasefire led to a lull in gold prices. In the global market, spot gold fell to $3,380.65 an ounce, while silver rose 0.44% to $36.47 an ounce. What happens next? Silver prices are also under pressure ahead of the US Federal Reserve's policy meeting, but global tensions could support the metals, according to Rahul Kalantari of Mehta Equities. Chintan Mehta, CEO of Abans Financial, said that US economic data, such as retail sales and industrial production, are likely to be a key driver of investor sentiment. Will be the center of attention.
