Sheikh-ul-Hadith Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Taqi Usmani Sahib (Damat Barakatuhum) writes in his famous book "Uloom-ul-Quran": "According to the humble taste of this insignificant one, these five exegeses (namely Tafseer-e-Kabir, Tafseer Ibn Kathir, Tafseer-e-Qurtubi, Tafseer Ruh-ul-Ma'ani, and Tafseer-e-Kashaf) are such that if a person contents themselves with only these, then, Allah willing, collectively they will make him independent of other exegeses. This was the personal opinion of this humble one, which was later endorsed almost word for word by an article of my respected elder Hazrat Maulana Sayyid Muhammad Yusuf Banuri Sahib (Madda Zillahumul Aali), praise be to Allah. The respected scholar writes in his valuable article 'Yatimatul Bayan': 'Since the precious life is short, the calamities of the times are many, and in our era, determinations have fallen low and resolutions have weakened... therefore, I want to point out four such exegeses to my student brothers that if anyone wishes to be content with them, they will be sufficient, Allah willing. 1. One is Tafseer Ibn Kathir... about which our teacher (Hazrat Allama Anwar Shah Sahib Kashmiri, Rahmatullah Alaihi) used to say: "If any book can make one independent of another book, it is Tafseer Ibn Kathir, which makes one independent of Tafseer Ibn Jarir." 2. The second is Tafseer-e-Kabir by Imam Razi, about which our teacher used to say: "Among the difficulties of the Holy Quran, I did not find any difficulty that Imam Razi (Rahmatullah Alaihi) did not address. It is a different matter that sometimes he could not present a solution to the difficulties upon which the heart is satisfied. And what has been said about it, 'There is everything in it except exegesis' (Feehi Kullu Shai'in Illat-Tafseer), is uncalled for, reducing its majestic status, and perhaps this is the saying of someone who was dominated by narrations and did not pay attention to the subtleties and sciences of the Holy Quran." 3. The third is Tafseer Ruh-ul-Ma'ani, which in my view is an exegesis of the Holy Quran just like Fath-ul-Bari, the commentary on Sahih al-Bukhari (Rahmatullah Alaihi), except that Fath-ul-Bari is a commentary on the speech of a creation, therefore it has paid off the debt of the commentary of Bukhari that was owed by the Ummah, while the word of Allah Almighty is higher and more sublime than any human being being able to fulfill its right.' 4. The fourth is Tafseer Abi al-Saud, in which special attention is given to explaining the Quranic structure in the best phrasing, and it sometimes makes one independent of Zamakhshari's Kashaf.'" In this passage, leaving aside Tafseer-e-Qurtubi (Rahmatullah Alaihi), these same four books have been mentioned with the same characteristics that had come to the understanding of this insignificant one. I am grateful to Allah Almighty for this agreement with Hazrat Shah Sahib (Rahmatullah Alaihi) and his illustrious student Hazrat Banuri (Madda Zillahum). __________📝📝__________ (Book: Tehrer Kaise Seekhein?
