Alas! There is no one left; everyone has gone astray, everyone has turned out to be worthless, everyone has become negligent. The sleep of death has overtaken all; everyone has swallowed the same destruction and fallen into identical ruin. Everyone has abandoned God, turned their faces away from His love, and stained their bond with Him. Everyone has belonged to outsiders, licked the dust of foreign thresholds, and collectively fallen in love with filth and impurity. Alas! Everyone has pledged to go astray at the exact same time, and everyone has sworn to flee from the call of God simultaneously. Alas! Everyone has fled from Him, showing infidelity in flocks and herds. There is no one to weep for Him, no one to sigh and wail in His love. The settlements of His love have been desolated, the households of His affection have been wiped out, no guardian remains for His flock, and no eye has stayed awake to protect His fields! Everyone ran behind Satan, everyone romanced Iblis, and everyone called out to him for courtship like loose women! Then the ultimate catastrophe upon this is that no one feels remorse, no one’s head bows in shame, no voice of repentance and turning back comes from anyone’s throat, there is no restlessness in anyone's forehead to prostrate, there is no one who would rush to appease the displeased Lord, and no one who would weep and wail bitterly over their own wretchedness and destruction! Alas! What should I do, where should I go, and how can I descend into your hearts? How can it be that your souls return and your negligence dies? What has happened to you that you have become worse than madmen, and the drunkards are wiser than you? Why are you destroying yourselves, and why has such a plague overshadowed your intellects that you say everything, understand everything, yet neither does the path of righteousness open before you nor do you abandon the footprints of misguidance!! - Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (May Allah have mercy on him)
