When Hazrat Saad bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) conquered Madain, he made an announcement that whichever Mujahid (warrior) possessed any spoils of war should bring it all and gather it in one place so that it could be distributed. People began submitting the spoils of war. Three days passed, and it felt as though no one had anything left. While Saad bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) was sitting, a young man came whose clothes appeared very ordinary. Financially, he did not look like a rich man; he was wearing simple and torn clothes. He had wrapped something in a piece of cloth, brought it forward, and said, "O Commander of the caravan! I have come to give this to you." When they opened it, inside was the crown of the enemy king—as if this Mujahid had killed the king and his crown came into his possession, but people were completely unaware of it. If this Mujahid wanted, he could have kept it for himself and spent his entire life in luxury by cutting and selling its diamonds and pearls, because kings' crowns contain huge diamonds. When this simple soldier gave it, Saad bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) was greatly astonished that no one knew about it, yet he brought such a valuable thing and handed it over on his own accord. Hazrat Saad bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him, "O Mujahid! What is your name?" When he was asked his name, the young man turned around to leave, took two steps back, and said: "The Allah for Whose pleasure I brought and returned this crown to you knows my name as well as my father's name." This is what it truly means to do something for Allah.
