A Hadith narrated by Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) states that the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) once narrated an incident of a person from previous nations. There was a man who had committed great injustices against his own soul, engaged in major sins, and lived a very sinful life. When the time of his death approached, he made a will to his family, saying, "I have spent my life in sins and negligence, and I have done no good deeds. Therefore, when I die, burn my corpse, grind the ashes into a very fine powder, and then scatter this ash in various places during strong winds so that the particles disperse far and wide." "I am making this will because, by Allah, if I fall into the hands of Allah Almighty, He will punish me with such a torment that no one else in the world has ever been punished with. This is because my sins are such that I deserve this punishment." When the man passed away, his family acted upon his will, burned his corpse, ground it, and scattered it in the winds, causing his particles to scatter far and wide. It was his foolish assumption that perhaps Allah Almighty would not be able to gather his scattered particles. However, Allah Almighty commanded the wind to gather his particles. When the particles were gathered, Allah commanded that he be restored back into a complete human being, just as he was. Consequently, he was brought back to life and presented before Allah Almighty. Allah asked him, "Why did you instruct your family to do all this?" He replied, "Khashyataka Ya Rabb" (Out of fear of You, my Lord). "Because I had committed many sins and due to those sins, I became certain that I deserved Your punishment, and Your punishment is very severe, so I made this will out of fear of that punishment." Allah Almighty will say, "Since you did this out of fear of Me, go, I have forgiven you." This incident was narrated by the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) himself and is present with an authentic chain of narration in Sahih Muslim.
