Attack on BSF Personnel on India-Bangladesh Border in Tripura: Assistant Commandant and Others Injured, 8 Accused Arrested; CM Manik Saha Orders Probe

A violent attack using sticks and batons was launched against BSF personnel near the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura's Sepahijala district. The incident took place near the Ashabari Border Outpost (BOP) in Boxanagar. During the attack, personnel sustained head injuries, and their vehicle's windshields were smashed. Police have arrested 8 attackers, while Chief Minister Manik Saha has strongly condemned the incident and ordered an official investigation.

How Did the Clash Spark?

Personnel of the 49th BSF Battalion are deployed at the Ashabari BOP. On Monday morning, they went into the village to take action regarding a smuggling-related case.

An argument ensued with local villagers, and reports emerged that a BSF personnel allegedly struck a man named Hefjur Rahman with a baton.

Angered by this, villagers blocked the Boxanagar-Rahimpur road, causing long traffic queues on both sides.

The detained individual is accused of involvement in smuggling activities.

What Happened During the Attack?

When Rahimpur BOP Assistant Commandant Rohit Kumar arrived at the spot with his team, an agitated mob attacked them and vandalized their vehicle.

It is alleged that the crowd also attempted to snatch weapons from the security personnel.

As reinforcement arrived, a clash broke out with the villagers.

Rohit Kumar and several others sustained injuries. They were rushed to the Boxanagar Primary Health Center and returned to camp after receiving first aid.

A video of the attack has gone viral on social media.
