An Envious Incident of Love for the Prophet ﷺ in Masjid Nabawi

An Envious Incident of Love for the Prophet ﷺ in Masjid Nabawi

A Turkish Muslim, standing in the courtyard of Masjid-e-Nabawi Sharif, narrates an eyewitness incident as follows: I was standing in Masjid-e-Nabawi, watching four policemen waiting for someone. Then a man appeared, and the policemen rushed to apprehend him and bound his hands. The young man said, "Allow me to supplicate (Dua) and make Tawassul (intercession). Listen to me, I am neither a beggar nor a thief." Then the youth began to cry out. When I looked at him, it felt as if I knew him. Let me tell you how I recognized him; in fact, I had seen him crying many times in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He was an Albanian youth, aged between 35 and 36 years, with golden hair and a light beard. I said to the policemen, "He has committed no crime, so why are you treating him like this? What after all is the accusation against him?" They said, "Step back! You have no right to speak in this matter." But I asked again, "What after all is his issue with you? Has he committed a theft?" They replied, "This man has been living here in Madinah Munawwarah for 6 years, but his stay is illegal. We want to catch him and deport him back to his country, but every time he escapes with the same trick and takes refuge inside the Rawdah of the Prophet ﷺ. We did not want to go inside and arrest him." I asked, "So what will you do with him now?" They said, "We will catch him, put him on a plane, and send him back to Albania." The young man was crying continuously and saying, "What will happen if you leave me? Look, I am not a thief, I do not beg from anyone. I am living here purely out of the love for the Prophet ﷺ." The policemen said, "No, this is not permissible." The young man said, "Fine, just let me comfortably present a plea to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." Then the young man turned his face towards the Green Dome (Gumbad-e-Khizra). The policemen said, "Go ahead, say whatever you want to say." The young man looked towards the Green Dome and whatever he said in Arabic, I understood it. That youth was saying, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Was there no agreement between us? Did I not leave my mother and father? Did I not close my shop and leave my home and hearth? And did I not come here with the pledge that I would reside in your vicinity of mercy? O Master! Now look, they are forbidding me from doing so. O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Why do you not intervene? O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Why do you not intervene?" Meanwhile, the young man began to lose consciousness, so the policemen loosened their grip a bit, and the young man fell down. A policeman kicked him and said, "O deceiver, get up!" But the youth showed no reaction. I said to the policemen, "He will not run away. Bring water from the washrooms and splash it on his face." But the youth was not making any movement. One policeman said, "Look at him carefully, lest he has actually died." The second policeman replied, "What kind of blow did we strike him that would cause him to die?" Then they called the ambulance. They brought an ambulance from the opposite Gate Number 7. They placed a hand on the youth's jugular vein to note any movement and checked the pulse, then they said, "It has been 15 minutes since he passed away." Now the policemen sat down like criminals and began to weep. That scene too was worth watching. One of them was striking his hands against his knees, saying, "Alas! Why did our hands not break? I wish we knew that he possessed such intense love for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Alas! Why did our hands not break?" After that, the ambulance staff lifted him from there and took him to the burial preparation section towards Jannat-ul-Baqi. I was also present there at the time of bathing (Ghusl). I kept telling them, "Let me touch him too, let me also lift his bier." When the funeral was ready to go for the prayers, the policemen said to me, "The amount of sin we have accumulated is quite enough. No one else but us will lift his bier. Perhaps in this way, we might get some leniency in the Hereafter." Right in front of me, that young man was repeatedly saying, "O Messenger of Allah, why are you not intervening?" Behold! The Messenger of Allah ﷺ intervened, and the Angel of Death performed his duty and reached him to you forever. May Allah grant us the same love for His Beloved ﷺ that was granted to this Albanian youth. Ameen.
