*To Look for Faults is Also a Fault*

King Bahram of Persia was famous for hunting. One day he went out for hunting and saw a wild donkey. He chased after it until he got separated from his army, but he succeeded in catching the prey. As he dismounted his horse to slaughter the prey, he saw a shepherd coming from the forest.

The King said:

*Ya ra'ee amsik farasee hazha hatta azbaha hazhal himara famasakahoo thumma tashaghala bizabhil himar*

"O shepherd, hold my horse while I slaughter this donkey." So, he held the horse, and the king became busy slaughtering the donkey.

However, King Bahram also kept an eye on the horse and saw that the shepherd:

*Yaqtao jawharatan fee uzra farasihi*

"Is cutting a pearl from the neck of his horse."

So, Bahram turned a blind eye and diverted his attention elsewhere until the shepherd finished cutting the pearl.

King Bahram said:

*Innan nazara ilal aibi minal aibi thumma rakiba farasahoo wa lahiqa bi askarihi*

"To look at a fault is also a fault." Then he rode his horse and rejoined his army. His minister asked the king:

*Ayyuhal maliku ayna jawharatu uzra farasika fatabassamal maliku thumma qala akhazahā man lā yarudduhā wa absara man lā yanamu alayhi*

"O King Bahram: Where is the pearl from your horse's neck?"

The king smiled and said: "The one who took the pearl will not return it, and the one who saw it will not expose him. And whoever among you sees that pearl with anyone should not quarrel with him."

*(Hikayat-e-Qalyubi)*

The fault-finding eye searches only for flaws,

Those with a beautiful vision see excellence and skill.

An Academic Joke

An Academic Joke

A Shia female scholar said to me, "Ibrahim (Alaihissalam) was a Shia." I asked, "How?" [83] Surah As-Saffat, Translation: 'And indeed, among his Shia (followers) was Ibrahim'." I said, "Then you will also agree to this," She asked, "How?" [11] Surah Al-Hijr, Translation: 'And We had already sent before you among the Shias (factions) of the former peoples. And no messenger would come to them but they used to ridicule him.' إِنَّ فِرْعَوْنَ عَلَا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَجَعَلَ أَهْلَهَا شِيَعًا [4] Surah Al-Qasas, Translation: 'Indeed, Pharaoh exalted himself in the land and made its people into Shias (factions).' مِنَ الَّذِينَ فَرَّقُوا دِينَهُمْ وَكانُوا شِيَعاً [32] Surah Ar-Rum, Translation: 'From among those who divided their religion and became Shias (sects).' إِنَّ الَّذِينَ فَرَّقُوا دِينَهُمْ وَكَانُوا شِيَعًا لَسْتَ مِنْهُمْ فِي شَيْءٍ [159] Surah Al-An'am, Translation: 'Indeed, those who have divided their religion and became Shias (sects) - you have no relation with them in anything.' ثُمَّ لَنَنْزِعَنَّ مِنْ كُلِّ شِيعَةٍ أَيُّهُمْ أَشَدُّ عَلَى الرَّحْمَنِ عِتِيًّا [69] Surah Maryam, Translation: 'Then We will surely extract from every Shia (sect) whichever of them was most insolent against the Most Merciful.'" Hearing this, that scholar laughed and said, "I was just joking! 😅"
