There was a woman in Arabia whose name was Umm Ja'far. She was extremely generous. She would distribute among people in such a way that the left hand would not know what the right hand had given. For a few days, she started passing through a path. Two blind men used to sit on that path. Both of them would call out. One's call would be: "O Allah! Grant me sustenance from Your grace and bounty." The second blind man would say: "O Lord! Grant me what is left over from Umm Ja'far." Umm Ja'far would hear the calls of both and would grant to both. The person who was seeking Allah's grace, she would give him two dirhams, while to the seeker of her (Umm Ja'far's) grace, she would grant a roasted chicken. The interesting thing is that the one who received the chicken would sell his chicken to the other blind man for two dirhams. This chain of events continued for many days. One day Umm Ja'far came to the blind man who used to seek her grace and ask of her, and she asked him a question: "Have you received a hundred dinars?" The blind man was astonished. He said: "No! I only used to get a roasted chicken which I would sell for two dirhams." Umm Ja'far said: "The one who was seeking Allah's grace, I used to give him two dirhams, and to you, I kept putting ten dinars inside the roasted chicken and giving it." The blind man started beating his head. He began to scream and cry out: "Alas, my misfortune! I wish I hadn't done that. I am ruined." Umm Ja'far said: "Certainly, the seeker of Allah's grace is successful, and the seeker of humans' grace is deprived." Narrated

The Punishment of a Jealous Person is Your Patience

The Punishment of a Jealous Person is Your Patience

The father of Imam Abu Hanifah (R.A) passed away. He sat for three days for condolences. After three days, he came out and arrived at the public square. A certain man was envious of him and was a fierce opponent; the entire area knew that he was against the Imam. When the Imam came out, there were many people in the square, and that man also came from the opposite side. After saying "Assalamu Alaikum", he said, "Abu Hanifah! I heard your father passed away?" The Imam replied, "Yes." He said, "Marry your mother to me." Allahu Akbar! Such a harsh sentence that it pierces a person's sleep, making it impossible to sleep. The Imam remained standing. The sentence was harsh, but the matter itself was within Islamic law (Shariah), it was not un-Islamic. The disciples and devotees who were with the Imam drew their swords from their scabbards. The Imam said, "Be quiet, we are not helpless or abandoned." Hazrat Imam Abu Hanifah (R.A) gathered all his courage, wiped away the tears that glistened in his eyes, and with gathered composure, said, "My friend, you have proposed that I marry my mother to you." "So let her waiting period (Iddah) pass. I will take your name and speak to Mother. If she wishes to marry you, I have no objection." Saying this, he held the arms of his friends and moved to the next square. Suddenly, that man fell heavily to the ground and his soul departed (he died). People asked, "Hazrat, what happened to him?" The Imam replied, "He thought I was helpless and abandoned. Nothing happened to him; the patience (Sabr) of Abu Hanifah has taken his life." Many times people say very harsh words which cause immense pain. Jealousy is a very evil thing; may Allah protect us all from its evil. Ameen.
