A Story of an Exemplary Crime and a Mother's Mercy

Hazrat Malik bin Dinar (may Allah have mercy on him) relates: "I performed Hajj sixty times in my life. During one Hajj, I saw an extraordinary crowd in Makkah Mukarramah, a magnificent gathering of millions of people. Seeing this immense multitude, a thought suddenly arose in my heart, and I inwardly pleaded: 'O Allah! So many people have come to Your House; have You accepted the Hajj of all of them or not?' Lost in this profound thought, I fell asleep. That night, in a dream, I heard a voice from the unseen saying: 'O Malik! Allah has accepted the Hajj of everyone, except for a man from Balkh named Muhammad bin Harun Balkhi; his Hajj has not been accepted.'" The Search for Muhammad bin Harun Balkhi: Hazrat Malik bin Dinar (RA) further states: "In those days, tents in Arafat and Mina were set up separately according to cities and countries. As soon as morning broke, I began my search for this man. I went towards the tents of Balkh and inquired about Muhammad bin Harun. The moment the people heard his name, they showered him with praises, saying: 'He is an exceptionally righteous and devout person. He is a Qaim-ul-Lail (one who stays up all night in worship) and a Saim-ud-Dahr (one who fasts continuously). If you wish to see him, he is sitting alone in the shelter of that mountain ahead, engrossed in the remembrance of Allah. He keeps himself completely isolated from people.'" Malik bin Dinar (RA) says: "Hearing this, I was astonished by the contrast between what I was shown in my dream and how highly these people were praising him! Filled with curiosity and wonder, I went behind the mountain and saw a man sitting on a prayer mat. The signs of intense worship, asceticism, and piety were evident on his face and body, but one of his arms was severed." An Astonishing Dialogue and Tears of Remorse: "When the man completed his two rak'ahs of prayer and offered salam, I stepped forward and said: 'Assalamu Alaikum!' He replied: 'Wa Alaikum Assalam! Are you Malik bin Dinar?' I was stunned and thought to myself: 'How sharp is this man's spiritual insight that he recognized me at first sight!' Then, he took a cold, deep sigh and said in a deeply sorrowful voice: 'O Malik! Surely, you must have been told in a dream last night that my Hajj has not been accepted?'" Hearing this, it was as if lightning had struck me. I asked in astonishment: 'Brother! People praise your righteousness and piety so much, and your own spiritual insight is of such a high caliber, then what on earth is the matter?' He replied with anguish: 'It is better if you do not ask me this.' Saying this, he began to weep profusely and cried for a long time. I insisted, saying: 'No, brother, you must tell me.' Weeping, he said: 'If you hear it, you will become furious with me.' I reassured him: 'I will not be angry, please relate your story.'" The Story of a Horrific Crime: The man began: "Sir! This is my 24th Hajj. For twenty-four years, I have been performing Hajj continuously, and every year, some saint of Allah (who sees true dreams) comes to me and says: 'Go away, none of your Hajj has been accepted!'" I asked: "What sin have you committed after all?" He replied: "I am a severely disobedient and sinful son to my mother. The truth is, Allah had blessed me with immense wealth, lands, and possessions, but I became indulgent, reckless, and wayward. Once, during the holy month of Ramadan, after the Asr prayer, my elderly mother was busy preparing for Iftar. I entered the house completely drunk on wine. I rudely demanded: 'Mother! Give me bread!' Seeing me in this wretched state, my mother cried out in anguish: 'O oppressor! Have some shame, have some decency! You did not keep the fast yourself, but at least you could have respected those who are fasting!'" (Here, the narrator interjects: How unfortunate is that son whose father fears talking to him, wondering what rudeness he might retort with! And how oppressed is that mother who trembles while talking to her own son, fearing his harsh tone! Those children are in total loss whose elderly parents cannot even speak to them openly.) Muhammad bin Harun continued his story: "When my mother shamed me, overwhelmed by the intoxication of wine and blind rage, I forcefully slapped my own mother. My frail, elderly mother lost her balance and fell backward into a burning clay oven (tandoor)! Seeing this horrific sight, the neighborhood people rushed in and locked me in a room. I lay there all night in a drunken stupor, hearing the chaotic noise of people outside. In the morning, when I regained consciousness, I saw my wife packing her belongings. I asked: 'Where are you going?' She looked at me with pure disgust and said: 'He who could not be loyal to his own mother, how could he ever be faithful to me?' Panicking, I asked: 'Where is my mother?' Weeping, she replied: 'Last night, the people offered her funeral prayer and buried her.' I was shaken to the core and said: 'Why didn't you wake me up? Why didn't you tell me?' My wife replied: 'Your dying mother left a final testament: Do not let this cruel son of mine see my face one last time, and do not allow him anywhere near my funeral.'" The Anguish of Repentance and Malik bin Dinar's Reaction: Hazrat Malik bin Dinar (RA) relates: "When I heard this horrific incident from his own mouth, out of righteous Islamic indignation, I too slapped him across the face and said: 'You truly deserve this treatment! How could you commit such a monstrous act of brutality against your own mother?' The man wept even more bitterly and pleaded: 'Sir! Please pray for me that my Lord may somehow become pleased with me. When I received the news of my mother's horrific death and the intoxication wore off, I immediately picked up an axe and chopped off the right hand with which I had struck my mother. I donated all my property and wealth in the way of Allah. Today, it has been 24 years; I fast all day, spend the entire night crying in prayers, and perform Hajj every year, but each time I receive the same devastating answer that none of my deeds are accepted. Sir! Please pray that my Lord forgives me.'" Hazrat Malik bin Dinar (RA) states: "Filled with anger and deep sorrow, I walked away from there, saying: 'How can Allah ever be pleased with an oppressor like you!'" A Glimpse of Divine Mercy and Glad Tidings: Hazrat Malik bin Dinar (RA) continues: "That night, when I slept in Makkah, I was blessed with a vision of the Master of the Universe, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The Prophet (PBUH) addressed me in a tone of loving admonition: 'O Malik! Why did you leave that servant of Allah completely despondent? Allah, the Exalted, is indeed Most Forgiving, Most Merciful, and Boundlessly Kind.' I respectfully submitted: 'O Messenger of Allah (PBUH)! He is his mother's murderer and a severely disobedient son; how can he ever be forgiven?' The Holy Prophet (PBUH) replied: 'O Malik! Go and give him the glad tidings that on the Day of Judgment, he will be forgiven because of that very mother of his.' I asked in astonishment: 'O Prophet of Allah! How will he be forgiven because of his mother?' The Beloved of Allah (PBUH) explained: 'On the Day of Judgment, his mother will present her case against her son in the court of the Almighty Lord. She will complain: "O my Lord! I carried him in my womb for nine months, endured the intense pangs of labor to give him birth, and nurtured him by feeding him the blood of my liver (milk), but he burned me alive in an oven and killed me!" Hearing this plight of the mother, the Lord of Majesty will declare in Divine Wrath: "Seize this sinner and cast him into the fires of Hell! He burned his mother in the world; today, burn him in the fire of Hell!"' The Holy Prophet (PBUH) continued: 'When the angels seize Muhammad bin Harun and begin dragging him towards Hell, he will turn back and look yearningly at his mother. The angels will drag him again, and he will look back at his mother a second time. When he is dragged for the third time, he will cry out in absolute anguish: "O Mother! Look, they are taking me to burn in the fire! O Mother! They are throwing me into Hell!"' My Beloved Prophet (PBUH) said: 'Upon hearing this agonizing wail of her son, that mother, who died from being burned in the world, will be overcome with maternal emotion. In a sudden surge of boundless motherly love, she will implore in the Divine Presence: "O Allah! This is my own child; I have forgiven him, so You too forgive him! O my Allah! I have relinquished my right, so You too bless him with forgiveness!" Thus, upon the mother's intercession, Allah Almighty will grant him absolute forgiveness.'" Lesson for Life: Subhan Allah! There is no love as selfless, unconditional, and pure as the love of parents in the entire universe. A mother grieves for her children in this world, and even in the Hereafter, her heart melts for them. What is our duty? We must value our parents while they are alive, never say even a word of frustration ('uff') to them, and consider serving them as our greatest blessing. Remember, if this protective shelter is lifted from above your head, no wealth in the world can ever replace it. Unity of Religion, Not Unity of Religions

🖋 Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani - Shama-e-Frozan 🕯 Allah Almighty has made a path for everything; the well-being of man lies in acquiring that thing through this very path, and the destruction of man lies in abandoning this path and making new paths on his own. Allah Almighty has kept the mouth as the path to deliver food to the stomach, and the physical system has been made accordingly. When a person puts a morsel into his mouth, saliva is automatically produced in the mouth, and this saliva mixes with the food and makes it fit to reach the stomach. Then the stomach grinds it, absorbs the components that are useful for man, and throws out those that are useless through a fixed path. If a person reflects only on this system of eating and digestion, it is enough to believe in the existence of God. Oxygen goes inside the body through the windpipe and reaches the lungs, through which the entire system of man runs. If a person puts food into the nose instead of the food pipe, or puts a morsel into the windpipe, life will be endangered; the very breath through which life is sustained and the very food from which man exists will become the cause of destruction for him. Similarly, there is a path that takes man from this world to the success of the Hereafter. Allah Almighty has guided towards this path through His Prophets and has presented it clearly before humanity. This very path is called Islam: "Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam" (Al Imran: 19). The meaning of Islam is to bow down one's head, meaning a way of life in which man bows his head in submission before one Allah, and forgets his own desires in comparison to His pleasure. This very way is acceptable to Allah, and no other way apart from this is acceptable in the court of Allah; accordingly, Allah Almighty says: "And whoever desires other than Islam as religion - never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers" (Al Imran: 85). This religion which Allah Almighty has sent, the success and salvation of man lies in it alone; other than this, whatever path man chooses, it is a path of loss and failure for him. Although the final form of Islam, which will remain until the Day of Resurrection, is the one brought by Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ after Hazrat Isa (AS); but Islam has been coming into this human universe since the first day through the Messengers. Hazrat Adam was the first human being as well as a Prophet, then all the Prophets and Messengers invited to this very religion: "And Abraham instructed his sons and [so did] Jacob, [saying], 'O my sons, indeed Allah has chosen for you this religion, so do not die except while you are Muslims.'" (Al-Baqarah: 132) "Or were you witnesses when death approached Jacob, when he said to his sons, 'What will you worship after me?' They said, 'We will worship your God and the God of your fathers, Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac - one God. And we are Muslims [in submission] to Him.'" (Al-Baqarah: 133). The final and complete form of this Religion of Truth is the one that reached humanity through Muhammad ﷺ. The distortions and alterations made in the previous books were removed through the Holy Quran. Certain rulings of the previous Sharias had been abrogated; therefore, a book was needed that did not contain abrogated and distorted rulings, and this need was fulfilled through the Holy Quran. In this way, the Prophets of Allah continued to come in every era even before you, and sometimes it also happened that separate Prophets were sent for different regions at the same time, who were familiar with the language of their addressees, and the heavenly Book was revealed to them in that very language. However, Sayyidina Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) holds this distinction that whichever Prophet was born after him, he was born from his lineage. He had two sons: Sayyidina Hazrat Ismail (AS), whose mother was an Egyptian-born lady, Hazrat Hajra (AS) — from his lineage, Muhammad al-Arabi ﷺ was born; the second: Sayyidina Hazrat Ishaq (AS), whose mother was Hazrat Sarah (AS) — all the Prophets of Bani Israel were from the lineage of Hazrat Ishaq (AS). In Hijaz-e-Muqaddas and in the heart of it, Makkah al-Mukarramah, the construction of the Kaaba was carried out by Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) along with his son Hazrat Ismail (AS), where Muslims from all over the world go to perform the obligation of Hajj, and Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) himself also constructed a place of worship in the city of Bait-ul-Muqaddas in Palestine, which is today called "Al-Aqsa Mosque". There is a large number of Prophets of Bani Israel; but the Prophets whose attributed nations still exist today and inhabit the world are Sayyidina Hazrat Musa (AS) and Sayyidina Hazrat Isa (AS). Those who believe in Hazrat Musa (AS) came to be called Jews and those who believe in Hazrat Isa (AS) Christians. In this way, the three large religious groups of the world: Muslims, Jews, and Christians hold a connection with Hazrat Ibrahim (AS). The basic teaching of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) was monotheism (Tawheed); however, the Jews and Christians introduced distortions and mixtures; therefore, today the teachings of Hazrat Musa and Hazrat Isa (peace be upon them) are in a mutilated and distorted state, and whatever remains, these nations do not act upon it, neither their elite nor the common people. The basic teaching of Sayyidina Ibrahim and all the Prophets was based on the belief in monotheism. Even today, in the Torah and even in the Gospel itself, there are clear texts regarding monotheism, in which the essence and attributes of Allah Almighty have been introduced very beautifully. Just as after creating an adulteration in some goods, some components of those goods still remain in it — it does not happen that due to adulteration in rice it becomes soil, or due to adulteration in wheat it becomes a stone — similarly, despite numerous distortions in the Torah and the Gospel, particles of the truths of the true religion are present; the belief in monotheism is there, the concept of prophethood, revelation, and heavenly book is also there, heaven and hell are also mentioned, and rulings of halal and haram are also there; but these nations cast this religion behind their backs, the result of which is that polytheistic customs and rituals also entered their various sects, and atheists and agnostics also began to be called Jews and Christians. Instead of the Sharia of Allah, they made their own desires and lusts their Sharia. In short, the Jews and Christians have deviated from the path of the Abrahamic religion and have become free from Divine commands; only the Muslim Ummah, despite its many shortcomings and deficiencies, stands firm upon the Abrahamic religion. Now at this time, an attempt is being made by the Western world to create a new fitna under the name of "Abrahamia" to divert Muslims from the path of truth, which is being presented with the concept of creating closeness between Islam, Judaism, and Christianity, and establishing centers for this where a mosque, a church, and a Jewish synagogue are in the same compound. The Western powers are using this term to merge Islam into Judaism and Christianity. When the "Camp David" accord took place between Egypt and Israel in 1979, motivated by the United States, US President Jimmy Carter said, "Let us set war aside, and let us make a treaty of peace for all the thirsty sons of Abraham; so that complete humans become neighbors; rather, complete brothers and sisters." Then in 1993, the Oslo Accord took place, and at that time, another US President Clinton said: "Today, on this journey of bravery, we, along with Abraham's sons Isaac and Ishmael, are offering peace with all our heart and soul." Then in 1994, when the treaty between Israel and Jordan took place, King Hussein of Jordan said on that occasion: "This day will be remembered by us and our generations as the sons of Abraham." There is no concept in Islam of a composite mixture or hotchpotch of different religions under the name of "Abrahamia" or any other name; but it is a matter of regret that Arab leaders, due to their incompetence and lack of understanding, have made a foolish advance in accepting this concept. Former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, under the same spirit, had decided to build a "Majma-ul-Adyan" (Assembly of Religions) in the Sinai region. This term became even more famous and its voice was raised globally when in 2020, under the patronage of the United States, the establishment of friendly relations with Israel by the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain came to light, and in September 2020, that agreement was signed in the White House, which US President Trump named the "Abraham Accords". A manifestation of this is that in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United United Arab Emirates, the "Abrahamic Family House" was inaugurated, in which a mosque, a church, and Jewish synagogues were built together. In the West, under a specific conspiracy, this contrary-to-fact and unacceptable concept has been presented, and sadly, the Arab world, in its helplessness, misunderstanding, and flattery of the West, has begun accepting this term. This is actually a global effort for the unity of religions. Its beginning has taken place with the three nations attributed to Hazrat Ibrahim (AS); but it is feared that gradually other major religions, especially Hinduism and Buddhism, may also be included in it. "Religion" basically comprises three elements: Belief (Aqeedah), Law (Sharia), and Morals (Akhlaq). Moral teachings are similar in all religions. In every religion, good behavior with others, respect for elders, affection for youngsters, service to parents, better treatment of neighbors, and likewise cleanliness are taught. However, the distinction of Islam in this regard is that it has presented moral teaching in the form of an entire system so that it becomes easy for people to act upon it. For instance, good treatment of relatives is a common teaching of religions, but Islam has fixed its defined form by determining the laws of maintenance (nafqah) and inheritance and the rights of various relatives. Cleanliness is liked in every religion, but Islam has given detailed rulings for it regarding istinja (cleansing), wudu (ablution), ghusl (bathing), and the cleanliness of clothes and the place for performing prayer. When moral aspects are brought into the sphere of law, acting upon them becomes easy and every person is compelled to abide by them. In the matter of belief, Islam is completely the claimant of the belief in monotheism (Tawheed), and to be a Muslim, the mere verbal affirmation of monotheism is not sufficient; rather, expressing disassociation from polytheism (shirk) is also necessary. Therefore, Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) said: "Indeed, I am free from what you associate with Allah" (Al-An'am: 78). Now let it be considered how a religion that believes in one God, and a religion in which three gods are believed in, or where the powers of God have been given into the hands of servants, or in which the creation of God—even a creature lower in rank than man—has been declared as God, can be one? As far as Sharia is concerned, there is an entire list of halal and haram, liked and disliked actions in Islam. Among the permissible matters, some are obligatory (Farz) and some are necessary (Wajib); among the impermissible matters, some are forbidden (Haram) and some are disliked (Makruh). On the other hand, contemporary Judaism and Christianity have completely freed themselves from the commands of Sharia. "Usury/Interest" (Sood) was declared forbidden in Judaism and Christianity as well; but today the entire Western world is not only involved in interest and gambling (qimar) but is also its proponent. The Torah and the Holy Quran both agree on the prohibition of adultery (zina); however, today in the Christian world, there is no concept of the prohibition of adultery, rather such thoughts are considered old-fashioned (daqiyanoosiyat). So how can such religions be made one? This is an unrealistic thing. It is just like the same color being called red as well as white; how is this possible? Therefore, the unity of religions or the West's so-called religion "Abrahamia" can be a deep and cunning conspiracy to deprive the Religion of Truth of its truthfulness, but it cannot be acceptable to any sensible person. Such attempts to deprive the Religion of Truth of its truth have always been made. When the people of Makkah made thousands of attempts to uproot the small plant of Islam and remained unsuccessful and disappointed, they made an offer to the Prophet ﷺ to accept a mixed religion: that we too will worship your God and you too should join in the worship of our idols. But the Holy Quran made a clear declaration through the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that I cannot worship your false deities: "I do not worship what you worship" (Al-Kafirun: 2). Similarly, Musaylimah the Liar made a false claim to prophethood; he prepared a large group of followers and sent word to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that we should divide the prophethood between ourselves—half the people should accept you as a prophet and half should accept me. When you ﷺ rejected this, the event of the Battle of Yamamah took place, in which twelve thousand Companions (RA) were martyred, among whom were seven hundred Huffaz (memorizers) of the Quran. It was after this accident that the thought of compiling the Holy Quran arose within Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA), whereas the total number of Muslims martyred in all the expeditions of the Prophetic era was not more than 255. Attempts of this kind have been made several times, among which Akbar's "Din-e-Ilahi" during the Mughal era also gained much fame. Akbar wanted to form a mixed religion by combining Islam and Hinduism. For this, he obtained help from certain misguided so-called Muslim clerics and experts of the Hindu religion, and named this new religion "Din-e-Ilahi". Sheikh Ahmed Sirhindi (RA) carried out strict resistance against it, endured the hardships of prison, put his life in danger, and foiled this conspiracy. This was his greatest reformative work, due to which he came to be called "Mujaddid Alfe Thani". Later as well, especially before 1947 and after it, such things were said by some leaders and a desire was expressed that Muslims should accept certain concepts of the Hindu religion, and the compatriots should accept certain realities of Islam. Obviously, this thing was not acceptable to Muslims; there is so much contradiction between both religions that it was not possible for Hindu religious leaders either to accept it. Consequently, although isolated individuals supported this theory, to the extent that in the last census held before 1947, some people used the expression "Mohammadi Hindu" for themselves in the religion column, but this concept could not gain promotion. If the purpose of this effort is to create an atmosphere of agreement and tolerance among the followers of religions, then its path is the one shown by the Holy Quran: that every community should remain firm on its religious concepts and religious commands, and just as it acts upon its own religion, it should recognize this right for the followers of other religions too, that they also hold a belief according to their religion and act upon the law of life prescribed by their religion. In the words of the Holy Quran: "For you is your religion, and for me is my religion" (Al-Kafirun: 6). The solution for mutual brotherhood and peace and security is exactly this: that every person acts upon his own religion and treats others nicely, and the life, property, honor, and religious sentiments of everyone are respected. In the Holy Quran, these rights have been stated clearly time and again, and an invitation to tolerance, endurance, and good treatment has been given. Muslims should remain aware regarding such fitnas and should protect themselves from falling into such traps.
