We Were Goldsmiths, But People Mistook Us For Blacksmiths

We Were Goldsmiths, But People Mistook Us For Blacksmiths

Once, I was sitting with Sheikh Hazrat Maulana Masihullah Khan Sahib (may Allah have mercy on him), and at that time, there was no one else there except me. In the meantime, a man came and started asking Hazrat for an amulet (ta'weez). Hazrat said, "I do not give amulets. Go and get it from Bhai Jan!" (By Bhai Jan, he meant Hazrat's respected son, whom the students and the general public all call Bhai Jan). That man went outside, then came back after a short while and said, "Hazrat! Please, you give it to me." Hazrat Vala (may Allah have mercy on him) said again, "I do not give amulets, get it from Bhai Jan." The man went out again and returned after some time, repeating the same request, "Hazrat! Please give me the amulet yourself." Hazrat gave the same reply again, sent him away, and then looked at me and said, "Brother! We were goldsmiths, but people mistook us for blacksmiths. Meaning, if someone takes ironwork to a goldsmith to get it made, it would fall under the category of 'putting a thing in the wrong place' (Wadh'ul Shay'i fi Ghayri Mahallih). Similarly, today, instead of coming to the people of Allah for self-reformation, attaining the recognition of Allah, learning about religious matters, and seeking paths to reach Allah, people go to them to ask for amulets or inquire about worldly matters, saying, 'Hazrat, my specific work is stuck, please resolve it,' etc." Once, when Hazrat Shah Abrarul Haq Sahib (may Allah have mercy on him) fell ill and was undergoing treatment in Mumbai, I went there to visit him. After the Asr prayer, people would come to visit and meet him, and Hazrat Vala would sometimes deliver a lecture himself for five to ten minutes, or if there was a guest scholar present, he would instruct them to deliver a sermon. On that day, he said to me, "Today, you share some religious matters with the people." In compliance with his command, while I was speaking, Hazrat Vala also came down from his place of residence. During my speech, I narrated this very incident of Hazrat Maseehul Ummat (Maulana Masihullah Khan). Hazrat Vala was deeply moved by it and remarked, "The Maulana spoke an excellent word, an excellent word indeed!" (Read incidents and take heed) ___________📝📝___________ Narrated.
