My Muslim brother! When the self that commands evil (Nafs-e-Ammarah) pulls you towards the disobedience of Allah and His Prophet (ﷺ), then you should remember death—the breaker of pleasures, the cutter of desires, and the separator of gatherings. Fear that death might come to you in a state with which Allah, the Almighty and Sublime, is not pleased, causing you to become one of the losers. When you find loneliness in the dark for some evil, and the Nafs-e-Ammarah invites you towards sin, then feel shame before Allah and say to your self: "The Being Who created the darkness is certainly watching me." There is a huge difference between the person who dies in the lap of an adulteress and the person who dies while prostrating to the Lord of the earth and the heavens. There is a huge difference between the person who dies amidst musical instruments, sin, and disobedience, and the person who dies while remembering Allah—the One, the Master of reward and punishment. Now, choose for your self whichever of these you prefer.
