The Riyadh Season of Obscenity The way Saudi rulers are promoting nudity and obscenity is very worrisome and dangerous. The scholars there are compelled and helpless to move at the gestures of the government; those who found the courage to speak out are oppressed. Even here, we still have such loyal soldiers who perform the duty of defending the ruler with great fervor. The Quran commands punishment for such criminals in this world and the Hereafter. Indeed, those who like that immorality should be spread among those who have believed will have a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter. And Allah knows and you do not know. (Hajj: 19) If a government is Islamic, it is its duty to stop obscenity, block the means of spreading vulgarity, take legal measures, and its officials and judges should all be active to punish such criminals whom the Quran declares as criminals against the public and states the decree that they should be punished in this world and the Hereafter. The question is, if a government itself is guilty of these crimes, puts a veil of Islam, the Book, and the Sunnah on its face, wraps itself in the shroud of serving the Haramain while organizing seasons of obscenity, violates the sanctity of the Haramain, and challenges the greatness of Makkah and Madinah, then what is the ruling on such a government? Should public opinion not be formed against it? Should its crimes not be stated in public? Should it not be criticized? How stubborn are those people who, even after seeing such obscene changes with open eyes, advocate loyalty, ask to keep quiet and wait for the danger of these changes to manifest, and give what kind of absurd advices, and write and speak lies in defense with utter audacity... May Allah protect the Ummah from those who spread obscenity and those who defend them unjustifiably. T. Ayoubi
