June 17, 2025, New Delhi: Indian-made indigenous rail locomotives will soon be seen running on the tracks of the African country of Guinea. India will supply Guinea with 150 locomotives worth over Rs 3,000 crore, which will be manufactured at the Marhora Railway Factory in Bihar. According to the Railway Ministry, in the next three years, 37 locomotives will be exported this year, 82 next year, and 31 in the third year. Key features According to Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of the Railway Board, these locomotives will be air-conditioned and two locomotives together can easily pull a 100-coach train at maximum speed. They are equipped with the DPWCS system, which ensures smooth operation and better freight handling. Broad, standard, and narrow gauge tracks have been laid at the Marhora factory. These locomotives will help in the development of infrastructure for Guinea's largest iron ore project. Economic benefits The project will strengthen India-Africa economic cooperation. The Marhora factory employs 285 people directly and 1215 indirectly, while over 2100 people are providing services across the country. The agreement will contribute to India's technological development and global market penetration. I highlight its strength, which will promote local employment and economic development.
