Incident details: On July 18, 2025, a second-year BDS student at Sharda University in Greater Noida committed suicide. In the suicide note, the student accused the university teachers of harassment, after which the students staged a fierce protest on the university campus. The teachers used to tell her, ‘You sign yourself, what do we need?’ We will fail you.” The mother added that she had spoken to the DM on Monday, and the police lathicharged her. University statement: The university's public relations officer Dr. Ajit Kumar said: "The student has committed suicide, and we are with her family. Currently, two teachers have been suspended, and a committee has been formed to investigate the matter. After the committee's report, strict action will be taken against whoever is found guilty." Student allegations: Another student said that BDS second-year students have to give practical exams in addition to theoretical exams. After completing the practical of a single subject, the signature of the concerned teacher is necessary. But some teachers used to avoid signing the practical work of the students. The suicide student accused the teachers of harassment in her suicide note, which also forced other students to protest. Social and administrative implications: This tragedy is not only a tragedy of a family but also highlights the increasing pressure on students and the problems of harassment in educational institutions.
