An Incident of Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (RA) and Honoring a Father's Friend

An Incident of Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (RA) and Honoring a Father's Friend

Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (RA) was once going on a journey, likely for Hajj or Umrah. According to the custom of well-to-do Arabs, while traveling, he took a mule-like donkey along with his riding camel (Arab donkeys are not like the donkeys in our region; rather, they possess the characteristics of our mules). What used to happen was that during the journey, when he would grow tired of riding the camel, he would ride the donkey for a while. It also had a saddle on it. On the way, at an unfamiliar place, a rural Bedouin came across them. You (Hazrat Ibn Umar) immediately dismounted and treated him with great respect, then took off your turban (Amamah) and placed it on the Bedouin's head, and handed over the donkey to him. The companions and disciples of Hazrat Ibn Umar (RA) said, "You gave a whole ride and a turban to a villager?" You replied, "This gentleman is a friend of my father," and then recited a Hadith, the meaning of which is that a form of goodness towards one's father is to treat his friends well. And the minimum degree of good treatment is to pray for him. It comes in the noble Hadith that when a person prays for another, an angel from Allah stands there and says: "Wa laka mithlu dhalik" (And for you the same). When an innocent angel prays, its acceptance is guaranteed. _____________________________________ (Book: Monthly Falah-e-Dareen Karachi (November) Page Number: 21 Selection: Islamic Tube Pro App)
