Hazrat Jafar bin Burqan narrates that it reached us that Hazrat Salman Farsi (RA) used to say: "I laugh at three types of people and I weep over three things. Firstly, I laugh at that person who builds great hopes in this world, whereas death is searching for him. Secondly, at that person who is drowned in negligence, whereas negligence is not being shown towards him—meaning the angels are recording his every bad deed and he will be recompensed for every action. Thirdly, at the person who laughs open-mouthed (heartily) while he does not know whether he has pleased his Lord or displeased Him. And I weep over three things: Firstly, the separation from beloved friends, meaning Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions. Secondly, the dreadfulness of the sights of the Hereafter that appear at the time of the severity of death. Thirdly, standing before Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, while I will not know whether I am going to Hell or to Paradise." Hazrat Salman Farsi (RA) further said: "The example of a believer in this world is like a sick person whose physician and healer is right with him, who knows both his disease and its cure. When his heart desires something that would harm his health, the healer forbids him from it and says, 'Do not even go near it, because if you eat it, it will destroy you.' In this manner, that healer keeps restraining him from harmful things until he becomes completely healthy and his illness ends. Similarly, the heart of a believer desires many such worldly things that have been given to others more than him, but Allah Almighty keeps restricting him from them until his death and keeps those things away from him, and after death, admits him into Paradise."
