*Once, someone asked me, what is that thing which is not alive but it breathes?* ┈┉┅━❀🍃🌸🍃❀━┅┉┈ I fell into a strange wonder as to what on earth could that thing be which is not alive yet it breathes? After a long time, suddenly this verse of the Quran flashed in my mind: *"والصبح اذا تنفس"* (Surah At-Takwir, Verse 18) "And [by] the dawn when it breathes (takes a deep breath)." I replied that it is the morning (dawn), which is not alive but it breathes. The questioner praised the answer, but I became entangled in thought: how on earth can the morning breathe? When I opened and looked into the commentaries (Tafasir), the commentators had translated 'Tanaffus' (breathing) as coming alive, meaning just as a human comes alive by breathing, similarly the morning comes alive every day. Some described morning as inhaling and night as exhaling. Some said that the night refers to the darkness before Islam, and here the morning refers to the light of the Prophet's (ﷺ) advent. Yesterday, I read a commentary and was left astonished: Do you know that when we breathe, we take in oxygen and when we exhale, we release carbon dioxide? Allah Almighty swore an oath by the morning in the Quran and said, when it takes a "deep" breath. It is a strange matter that only some time ago, science discovered the process of "Photosynthesis" in which trees, in an imperceptible way, absorb carbon dioxide from the air and release oxygen. And this process is at its highest peak during the morning time, meaning the largest amount of oxygen in the world is found in the morning, and this is the world's deep breath. This process gradually decreases, becomes light in the afternoon, ends in the evening, and reverses at night when trees begin to release carbon dioxide instead of oxygen, but then the next morning the same process starts again. I was intensely amazed that a short verse of the Quran had explained such a huge riddle of science hundreds of years ago! Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah)
