Advice of Shaykh al-Islam Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani (May his shadow be lengthened) to the people of knowledge: "I have experienced all walks of life and traveled country to country. I have read books in Urdu, Arabic, Persian, and English from every country and every class of people. Regarding the reformation of the self (Islaah-e-Nafs) and the correction of the apparent and hidden (outer and inner self), I have not seen any book better than the sermons (Mawaiz) of Hazrat Thanvi (Rahimahullah). Despite my excessive engagements, I definitely study them for about five minutes every day before sleeping. Sometimes, the heart gets so engrossed in them that this short duration extends to even half an hour. Some sermon of Hazrat always remains kept by my bedside. I do not understand how to instill their benefit into your hearts and minds? That's all! I request you with folded hands that every student among you should include the sermons and discourses of Hazrat (Rahimahullah) into their daily routine. It is possible that initially your heart might not be inclined towards them, but as you progress further, If Allah wills (In sha Allah), your heart will be drawn towards them and you would want to finish them in a single sitting."
